TN Promise enrollment spikes after program waives community service requirement
The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office says the TN Promise program saw a significant increase in enrollment in the fall of 2020, which may be a result of adjustments to eligibility requirements due to the pandemic.
In the fall semester of 2020, more than 19,000 TN Promise students enrolled in college, making this the largest cohort in program history. State officials believe this uptick to be a result of the recently-altered eligibility requirements, such as allowing students to complete mandatory mentor meetings online and waiving the community service requirement.
