Bill bred from death at Broadway Nashville bar for bouncer training heads to governor
A bill that would require training for security guards or bouncers working at taverns or bars is headed to Governor Lee’s desk for a possible signature.
The House bill is nicknamed Dallas’s Law for 22-year-old Dallas Jordan Barrett who was restrained by guards at the Broadway bar Whiskey Row owned by country star Dierks Bentley.
Barrett became unresponsive and later died from oxygen deprivation. His death was ruled a homicide and the six guards restraining Barrett were indicted by a Nashville grand jury.
Sponsor Rep. Bill Beck says the bill will create a prerequisite for bouncer training such as CPR and learning de-escalation tactics.
