Carter County Police: Man breaks into home while hallucinating on meth
A man is in jail in Carter County after police say he broke into a home in Watauga while reportedly hallucinating on meth. James Baldwin, 42, was arrested after a victim called police stating someone had broken the glass on her front door and was inside the home.
Upon arrival, police found Baldwin inside a room with the door locked. Officers were forced to kick in the door to gain access to Baldwin, where they found he had ripped the bathroom sink out of the wall, causing significant damage. A report says Baldwin appeared to be under the influence and told deputies someone was trying to kill him, so he came into the home to get away. Baldwin admitted to using meth days prior and was arrested for aggravated criminal trespassing, vandalism, and public intoxication.
