Carter Fold director named 2022 Outstanding Virginian
Carter Fold Executive Director Rita Forrester has been named the 2022 Outstanding Virginian by the University of Virginia’s Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy.
Rita is being honored for her work at the Carter Family Memorial Music Center in Maces Springs in Scott County – a facility founded by her mother Janette to preserve and continue the legacy of mountain and country music made famous by her mother and father A.P. and Sara, and Mother Maybelle Carter.
The Carter recordings made in downtown Bristol in 1927 are widely known by historians as the “big boom of country music.”
