Voters produce some surprises in Northeast Tennessee primaries
A few surprises came out in the vote totals on primary election night across Northeast Tennessee.
One of those was posted in Carter County where incumbent Sheriff Dexter Lunceford was defeated in the GOP primary by challenger Mike Fraley–a 30 veteran of the force who retired and then announced his candidacy in early 2021.
Appointed Washington County Sheriff Keith Sexton earned the party’s nomination and will appear on the November ballot unopposed.
Sullivan County Mayor and incumbent Richard Venable edged out a narrow victory in the primary by defeating Commissioner Angie Stanley by just 121 votes, according to unofficial results.
