Interstate 81 North in Abingdon to see 24-hour lane closures in June

The Virginia Department of Transportation says 24-hour lane closures will happen the first two weeks of June on Interstate 81 North in Abingdon. Officials say these closures are part of an effort to improve the exit 17 area of Interstate 81 Northbound.

The first lane closure happens from 8 PM on June 5th to 6 AM on the 9th where the Northbound left lane will be closed. Then, from June 12th to 16th the Northbound right lane will be closed. VDOT says local traffic is encouraged to research alternate routes, primarily for busy afternoon hours. Travelers should always follow work zone speed limits and use extreme caution.
