UPDATE: Conferees signal budget breakthrough in Virginia
Budget conferees of the General Assembly have notified Governor Glenn Youngkin that a potential deal is on the table for a Virginia budget.
Youngkin’s campaign promises are included in the proposed deal with an elimination of the state grocery tax plus pay raises for teachers and police officers.
The spending plan also has more funds dedicated to school construction and mental health services. No word if lawmakers have agreed to Youngkin’s suspension of the state gasoline tax as a concession to drivers during the inflation gap.
