Norton Man Arrested, Sets Church On Fire

Norton, Virginia Police have arrested a man in connection to a Norton church fire that occurred last weekend. Police say James Mefford is accused of setting fire to the Ramsey Freewill Baptist Church on Orender Street. First responders discovered fire and smoke upon arrival and were able to extinguish the blaze. Mefford is facing numerous charges including destruction of property, burning or destroying a church, trespassing and breaking and entering with intent to commit arson.
