Carter County Commission Approves Pay Raise For Sheriff’s Department
Tuesday night Commissioners in Carter County approved a five dollar an hour pay raise for employees of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office. The department in Carter County is one of the lowest paid in the region. Sheriff Mike Fraley says the pay raise will help current employees, help to retain employees, and will attract new employees to cover a severe shortage in staffing. Because of so many unfilled positions, the office has accumulated a reserve of funds and will use those, along with some additional federal funding to pay for the pay raises. The more than one hundred and thirty employees will have to wait until next week when the Budget Committee gives its final approval.
