Washington County Sheriff’s Office sees $1 million grant for inmate recovery program
The Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office says it’s receiving a $1 million grant to implement programs that will help inmates assimilate to life upon release. Sheriff Keith Sexton said in a Tuesday press conference the funding comes from the state’s Office of Criminal Justice, and ensures these programs for the next three years.
Both one hundred male and female inmates at the Washington County Detention Center will see assistance each year from programs including cognitive behavior therapy, moral reasoning, and substance treatment. Sheriff Sexton said, “To attack the drug problem in our region, we have to do more than arrest people … we have to create change.”
