UPDATE: Gunman in Big Stone Gap motel robbery gets 13 years

A circuit court judge sent a Coeburn, Virginia man to prison for 13 years after he admitted he robbed a Big Stone Gap motel at gunpoint.

Prosecutors said Bryon Kent Newsom, 42, pointed a rifle at the clerk at the Quality Inn in December 2021 and demanded money.

Newsom fled to North Carolina where Canton police found the weapon along with cash from the holdup in Newsom’s backpack.
