Spending in place as Virginia legislators hash out full budget

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The politically divided Virginia General Assembly has passed major energy legislation and a stop-gap budget bill as it reached the end of the regular session.
Saturday marked the end of the year’s regular 46-day calendar. Lawmakers worked through dozens of pieces of legislation, including the so-called skinny spending bill. There is still disagreement about other parts of the broader spending plan, including whether to enact the additional $1 billion in tax cuts Gov. Glenn Youngkin is seeking.
Negotiators will keep working on the broader plan in the days and weeks to come.
