NEW: Unexpected resignation given by Virginia’s head school superintendent
Virginia’s Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow gave Governor Youngkin an unexpected resignation letter on Wednesday following a rocky 14-month tenure.
Balow and the governor’s administration came under fire after a drastic recall and revision of K-12 standards which are the subject of public hearings across the state this month following a 5-3 vote by the Board of Education.
Some critics called the process whitewashed and pushed too much of Youngkin’s agenda.
