Local planning district earns grants to study reactor sites in Southwest Virginia
The LENOWISCO Planning District has received two GO Virginia grants that help localities target economic growth potential and develop future workforces.
The $150,000 in award dollars will help the agency develop a feasibility study on what Southwest Virginia sites could host a group of small modular reactors that would produce energy and identify local businesses that could help in the construction of those structures.
Those studies are directly tied to bills designed to help grow new energy sources signed by Gov. Youngkin in Abingdon last week.
