NFS Making New, Very Highly Enriched Uranium
Erwin’s Nuclear Fuel Services is awarded a 428 million dollar, federal government contract to purify and convert uranium to a more potent intensity. The Very Highly Enriched process is a new one, that required NFS to seek a new type of permit to produce the Uranium. The first part of the contract, 57 and a half million dollars required NFS to design a process and demonstrate that it can convert the uranium oxide to purified metal and meet precise specifications and safety measures. Company officials say they are confident NFS can meet the Phase II requirements, while maintaining safety and quality.
