Pearson going back to legislature while Sherrell departs Justice Committee
It was a day of returns and departures for members of the Tennessee General Assembly.
Shelby County Commissioners voted 7-0 to name Justin Pearson as interim House Rep days after he was expelled for joining a gun reform protest in the House well.
It was also announced that Sparta House member Paul Sherrell would be leaving the body’s Justice Committee after a decision by Speaker Cameron Sexton.
Sherrell asked during a committee session last month if hanging convicts from a tree could be added to a list of death penalty options in the state while considering a bill for including firing squads.
Sexton did not give an explanation for Sherrell’s move.
