Bristol Virginia Running Out Of Options To Pay For Costly Closure Of Landfill
It could cost as much as 60 million dollars to safely close the Bristol Virginia landfill. And city leaders are quickly running out of ways to cover the cost before they have to submit a balanced budget. City Manager Randal Eads also says the city’s request for federal assistance has been denied. That was the consensus in a public hearing on Tuesday when residents voiced their concern over a proposed 72 dollar per month waste collection fee to help with the costs of closing the landfill. Bristol is also reaching out to the Commonwealth for 12 million dollars but its not clear when lawmakers will pass a state budget.
