HAAP To Replace Open Burning With Two New Technologies
Two new facilities on the campus of Holston Army Ammunition Plant are on schedule for completion and will reduce open burning of waste at the plant. The facility has been burning its waste since it opened in 1942. Neighbors and environmentalists have complained about the practice for years. The ammunition plant is building two new facilities, a flashing furnace, scheduled for completion in 2024 and a static detonation chamber should be in place by 2027 to replace open burning of the plant’s waste products.
