No Tax Increase For Washington County Taxpayers, But Cuts To the School Board
On Thursday night, Washington County Tennessee commissioners will vote on a budget that includes no tax increase as first expected but will cut four million dollars from the school system’s budget. On Monday, the final budget hearing was held and commissioners got a mouth full of concern from residents who opposed the school budget cut for the sake of not implementing a tax increase for Washington County taxpayers. Many of those in attendance at the meeting voiced their opposition to those budget cuts to the school system. For years now, commissioners have given its sales tax revenues to the school system, but this year they are holding half of that back to avoid a tax increase across the county.
