NEW: Williams added to TBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted
Federal escapee Sean Williams was added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Top 10 Most Wanted List on Wednesday afternoon.
Williams was being transported to US District Court in Greeneville from a holding facility in Kentucky when authorities said he kicked out a window of the transport van he was in and got out.
The van was located just one mile from the courthouse when Williams escaped just after 7:30 a.m.
It marks the second time that Williams has attempted an escape since being extradited back to Tennessee from an arrest in North Carolina. He was captured during an attempt on July 23 at the Washington County Detention Center in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
Williams is at the center of an investigation that triggered an internal independent review of the Johnson City Police Department. He is also facing several federal charges related to child sex crimes after a computer drive was found in Williams’ possession that prosecutors said contained illicit photos of children.
A $2,500 reward is being offered for information that leads to Williams’s location.
