Abingdon Firefighter killed, another injured in Thursday crash
A firefighter was killed and another seriously injured when an Abingdon Fire Department vehicle crashed Thursday. According to the Virginia State Police, the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. when the vehicle was responding to a call. The vehicle was traveling south on Vance’s Mill Road when it went off the right side of the road, hit a utility pole, and overturned down an embankment. A passenger in the vehicle was killed, the driver suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The driver was taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center. State police said the crash remains under investigation.
