Trial begins for suspect accused of shooting Norton police chief
The trial of James Buckland begins Monday. 38 year old Buckland is accused of shooting Norton Police Chief James Lane. Buckland, faces more than a dozen charges that include attempted murder of a police officer. According to authorities, on May 7, 2021 Chief Lane responded to a shoplifting call and encountered Buckland, who allegedly began shooting into Lane’s vehicle. Lane and another Norton officer returned fire. Both Lane and Buckland suffered gunshot wounds and were flown to a local hospital for treatment.
