Kingsport takes step to modify city charter
The Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen will take the first steps towards modifying the city’s charter at its meeting on Tuesday. Outgoing mayor Pat Shull is asking the board to consider extending the mayor’s terms from two years to four years and changing the city’s process for adjusting the compensation of BMA members. Currently, Board of Mayor and Aldermen members are elected to 4 years terms, with the mayor up for election every 2 years. Another change would allow the BMA to adjust members compensation during the budget approval process. A vote is expected at Tuesdays meeting to start the process.
