Abingdon to begin sewer system repairs

The Town of Abingdon announced they will soon begin repairs on what has been called its “failing sewer infrastructure” thanks to funds from a state program. The announcement says the DEQ Virginia Clean Water Revolving Loan Program has granted funds for the upgrades. the funding will allow for more than $5 million in upgrades to the sewer infrastructure inside the Abingdon town limits. The town will open bidding for Phase 1 of the multiyear Project on April 6. Once bidding is complete and a contractor is selected, town leaders say the work should begin around July 1.
