Sheriff: Inmate charged with attempted murder after punching, strangling guard

A woman from Bristol, Tennessee is facing criminal charges after a Tuesday attack on an officer that occurred inside the Washington County Detention Center in Jonesborough.

Sheriff Keith Sexton’s report said Patricia Lynn Nunley, 44, is charged with attempted second-degree murder after repeatedly punching and trying to strangle the guard with her own radio cord despite being sprayed with a chemical deterrent.

The guard had to be taken out for medical care, according to the report. Nunley is scheduled for a court appearance on Thursday.
