Johnson City to look at allowing cryptocurrency mines
Johnson City’s planning commission will consider a change to zoning rules Tuesday night to allow cryptocurrency mines in city limits. One such mine was ordered closed in a rural part of Washington County, TN for excessive noise complaints. The mines use industrial fans to cool the equipment and those data mining operations make an excessive amount of noise. The proposal Johnson City is looking at, would allow such mines to operate in the heavy industrial and, yet to be created, business park zoning districts.
