Buchanan County school consolidation plan moves forward
The plan to consolidate three high schools in Buchanan County is moving forward. Grundy High School, Hurley High School and Twin Valley High School are slated to be consolidated to the new Buchanan County High School. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers formally agreed to contribute more than $92 million for the design and construction of the school which is to be built in the Southern Gap area of Buchanan County. While the new school is expected to include many opportunities for students, feedback on the new school has been mixed with some parents concerned about the time students will face just getting to school, as well as the cost of transportation. The district is also asking for public input to name the new consolidated school, mascot and colors.
