‘Police activity’ snarls and halts traffic on interstates

Some of the information being posted on social media indicates there is “police activity” on Interstate 81 in Kingsport near Interstate 26 interchange.

TDOT is stating traffic flow north and southbound on 81 has been shutdown due to the incident. The report also said they are diverting northbound traffic onto Interstate 26 and southbound is being diverted at Exit 59 at Colonial Heights.

A multi-agency response of city, county, and state officers have converged around a vehicle near mile marker 57 past the interchange.

There has been no official word from law enforcement on the situation.
