Washington County TN tax rate lowered by state
Washington County’s new “calculated tax rate” from the state of Tennessee is $1.41 per $100 of assessed value. That’s down from $2.15 to reflect a 54% average increase in property values following the recently completed property reappraisal. The change is state-mandated and happens any time a county conducts a reappraisal in order to set the rate to a level that will bring in the same amount of revenue as before the reappraisal. The county commission would have to provide public notice and a hearing if it wants to increase that rate to bring in more revenue. Washington County has not increased its property tax rate since 2015.
