Human remains found near search area for missing Smyth County man

Late Saturday afternoon, human remains were recovered in the vicinity of the search area regarding a missing Smyth County man. 47 year old, Eric Pennington was last seen June 6th on Jerry’s Creek Trail. Eric Pennington was reported missing on June 9th. Authorities say the remains collected will be examined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke for a positive identification. The investigation continues pending the report from the Medical Examiner.
