UPDATE: Catalyst withdraws energy farm project plan in Glade Spring
Officials with Catalyst Energy Partners have withdrawn a proposed solar energy project in Washington County, Virginia after clap back from several area residents.
Zoning Official Stephen Richardson announced the pullout in a statement about the issue that was taken off of the Board of Supervisors’ agenda for next week. Richardson indicated Catalyst has interest in reintroducing the project on a small scale in the future.
Richardson’s full statement said: “Catalyst Energy has withdrawn their application for a Special Exception Permit (SEP). The company notified the county they are withdrawing consideration and therefore the application will be removed from the Board agenda. The company has indicated they may reapply for a new request with a reduced solar footprint. A new SEP would begin the process again and first return to the Planning Commission for consideration. The Board of Supervisors will not take any action on July 9th on this matter.”
The company had proposed a solar farm in Glade Spring that would receive power support from the Wolf Hills Gas Plant to provide low energy costs and potential revenues of more than $20 million.
