VSP investigating 2 separate fatalities, in the same day, on same roadway
Virginia State Police are investigating 2 single vehicle crashes, both with fatalities and both on Swords Creek Road in Russell County. Police say the first crash happened Sunday at 3:45 p.m. on Swords Creek Road. A 2007 Chevrolet was driving northbound a half-mile south of Franks Hollow Road, when the vehicle ran off of the left side of the road and struck a tree and a guardrail. 56 year old Curtis R. Nichols of Swords Creek, Va., was taken to an area hospital where he died of his injuries. The second wreck occurred Sunday night at 10:05 p.m. A Volvo was traveling northbound on Swords Creek Road, a half-mile north of Maple Gap Road, when the vehicle went off the left side of the road and struck a parked vehicle. 65 year old Tony R. Hill of Rowe, Va., was taken to an area hospital where he died of his injuries. Both crashes remain under investigation.
