Recycling facility to replace little league field in Blountville
Last week, Sullivan County informed Blountville Little League it would no longer have access to Bernie Webb Park near Blountville, where the league was planning to have fall ball this year. The county will use the property to build a packing facility for recyclables. Demolition of the ball park is already underway with the new facility designed to pack recyclables like cardboard, plastic and aluminum. New fields for the league will be built behind the former Blountville Middle and Elementary schools but those fields will not be ready for Fall ball this year. Sullivan County Mayor Richard Venable says the packing facility will be completed around this time next year, but isn’t sure if the new fields will be done by next spring. League officials are currently scouting out available ball fields for Fall league play.
