Inmate escapes in Unicoi County, captured short time later

Unicoi County officers captured an escaped inmate Thursday. The inmate escaped while being escorted through the Unicoi County Courthouse. After the escape, police set up a perimeter that included part of I-26. Authorities said the inmate entered a basement near Willow Park, changed his clothes, and stole a bicycle. The Unicoi County police chief spotted the inmate later on the bike on Buchanan Street where he was taken into custody.
