Change to short term rental ordinance in Damascus
A zoning ordinance change in Damascus has left some satisfied and others concerned. The five-to-one vote Monday night now restricts short-term vacation rentals to the commercial and industrial areas of Damascus. Homes currently listed as short-term vacation rentals will be grandfathered in, even if the house is sold, retaining its lodging status. The focus of the change is to keep the residential areas for residents only. The mayor of Damascus has been opposed to limiting short-term vacation rentals. The change could have major impact on the local economy. Some believe the new ordinance will reduce the prices of houses around the area. Damascus is expected to look at rezoning areas next, with the hopes of expanding the commercial space.
