EF-0 tornado touchdown confirmed in Hancock County by NWS surveyors
Surveyors with the National Weather Service in Morristown have confirmed the creation of an EF-0 tornado during Tuesday’s storm in Hancock County.
The report said winds reached speeds between 65 and 85 miles per hour while the tornado tracked across 6 miles along Alder Road and the Clinch River between Sneedville and Kyle’s Ford. That information was posted following the crew’s trip to Hancock Wednesday morning to analyze damage.
Data from the regional weather center showed the tornado touched down just before 6:30 Tuesday evening. Experts also said this was the first-ever recorded September tornado for East Tennessee.
