Sullivan County couple charged in infants death
A report from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office says on Sunday, September 15, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a home on Queens Garden Private Drive with a report that a four-month-old infant was not breathing. The infant was transported to a medical facility where it was later pronounced deceased. An investigation began and an autopsy was performed the following day with the cause of death ruled homicide. The parents of the infant, 23 year old Lucas Carter Jr., and 24 year old Madison Rehart, were interviewed by investigators and evidence suggested that both were responsible for the child’s death and neither sought medical care for the child. Both were arrested on Tuesday, September 17 and Wednesday, September 25, the case was presented to the Grand Jury and that resulted in Carter and Rehart both being charged with First Degree Murder and Aggravated Child Abuse/Neglect/Endangerment. Both remain jailed on $500,000 bond.
