Johnson County school attendance requirement waived by TN after Helene
Johnson County students will return to class on November 6, and school leaders say they won’t have to make up the days they missed due to flooding. Director of Schools Dr. Michelle Simcox says that the return date and the decision to remain closed for so long were due to guidance from county safety authorities. Students will have missed 23 days of instruction by the time they head back to class. The system had 13 built-in snow days at the beginning of the year and is required by the Tennessee Department of Education to have a total of 180 days under normal circumstances. The state has waived that requirement for Johnson County.
