Elizabethton appoints new mayor
Bill Carter was appointed to serve as Mayor of Elizabethton Tuesday morning by the city council. Carter had been serving as Mayor Pro Tem after Curt Alexander announced earlier this month he would not run for re-election. The decision to officially install Carter was unanimous. Alexander cited wanting to spend more time with family as his reason for leaving the position. He had been the longest-serving mayor in Elizabethton history, holding the office for 18 years. Michael Simerly will now serve as Mayor Pro Tem, also by unanimous decison.
