Mountain City moving to increase fees for water and sewer
The Mountain City Board of Mayor and Aldermen has moved toward raising water and sewer rates following the closure of the Parkdale Mills Plant. According to Mayor Jerry Jordan, the plant was the second largest water and sewer customer of the town’s water department and brought in $502,000 in revenue to the town per year. The board approved a rate increase of 12 percent for water charges and 15 percent for sewer charges, which would go into effect on March 1. A public hearing is scheduled for February 4, and after the hearing, the board will vote to formally adopt the proposed rates.
