Woman sited after collision with stopped THP unit on I-81 Sunday

A woman was cited for failure to exercise due care after crashing into a Tennessee Highway Patrol vehicle that was parked at the scene of a previous, unrelated crash on Interstate 81 Sunday morning. The THP crash report says that the crash took place on I-81 south near mile-marker 59 around Colonial Heights at around 8:30 a.m. The THP unit was working an unrelated crash, with the trooper outside the unit awaiting a tow truck to arrive. A Kia Sorento was traveling in the left lane and failed to merge into the right lane, hitting the THP vehicle and pushing it into the previously disabled vehicle. The driver, a 27-year-old woman, was cited for failure to exercise due care. The woman had two children, ages two and four, in the Sorento with her. Both received minor injuries. Both southbound lanes were temporarily blocked.
