Trial Date Set for Kingsport Doctor Accused of Participating in Insurance Fraud Scheme

A Kingsport doctor charged in a scheme to defraud insurance companies of millions of dollars has a trial date set in U.S District Court in Mississippi.
Dr. Edward Thomas Sturdvant, along with three other doctors, are accused of participating in a scheme to defraud TRICARE, a health care benefit program serving active military, veterans, and their families, as well as private health care programs like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi by unnecessarily prescribing pain cream and Ketamine to patients for kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies.
Sturdvant has pled not guilty to his 10 charges and the case goes to trial beginning August 19th.
