American Red Cross Ending Blood Drives in Greater Tri-Cities Region
After careful consideration, the Carolinas Blood Services Region has decided that effective July 1, 2019, the Red Cross will no longer conduct blood drives in Carter, Greene, Johnson, Unicoi and Washington counties in northeast Tennessee. This decision is in response to a continued industry-wide decline in the demand for blood products and the need for consolidation of operations to ensure we can deliver cost-effective and reliable products and services for patients in need.
The closure of the Johnson City Blood Donation Center and surrounding community blood drives will not impact the services we provide to local communities on a daily basis. We will remain committed to those we serve and continue to deliver our lifesaving Red Cross mission by providing disaster relief and assistance, health and safety education and training and support and services for military members and their families.
The American Red Cross is no longer conducting blood drives in the greater Tri-Cities region.
A statement from the organization says this decision was made due to a industry-wide decline in the demand for blood products and the need to consolidate operations that would help continue delivering cost-effective services and products for patients. The statement also mentions that the closure of the Johnson City Blood Center and other community blood drives will not impact services provided daily to local communities.
