Missing Woman Rescued After Falling Down Steep Slope Into Watauga River

A woman reported missing in Carter County is lucky to be alive after officials believe she fell down a steep slope and into the Watauga River Sunday. Officers began searching an area near Wilbur Dam Road and located her vehicle at an overlook. TWRA officials, then located the woman in the water with her hand and head above the surface. Deputies, with the assistance of the EMS were able to safely pull the woman out of the water. Officials say the woman was insulin dependent and was found to have extremely low blood sugar and received an injury to the side of her face. The woman was transported to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.
