State corrections officials prepare for Halloween patrols for ‘Operation Blackout’
Officials with the Tennessee Department of Corrections will be conducting their annual ‘Operation Blackout’ procedures on Halloween that aims to keep convicted child predators in check. Local and state officers will comb neighborhoods where sex offenders live to make sure they adhere to a curfew of home confinement from 6 p.m. To 6 am on Halloween night. TDC spokesperson Johnny Caldwell explains what residents should do if they suspect or see unusual activity at an offender’s home that night:
“If they know of a registered sex offender, either one that is on supervision or not, and they know they’re dressing up for Halloween, they’re throwing a party or they’re making their house look attractive to young children, to notify local police or contact us at community supervision so we can actually go out and check out that residence and ensure that’s not happening.”
