Heading off potential gun control laws, Lee County becomes Second Amendment sanctuary

Lee County has become the eighth locality in the state of Virginia to pass legislation to become a Second Amendment sanctuary.

County lawmakers are looking to head-off any potential gun control policies or laws that Gov. Ralph Northam and the Democrat-controlled General Assembly could pass in the 2020 session. The resolution endorses the county’s stance to not use local dollars to impose any type of gun restrictions.

According to recent statistics from the Virginia Public Access Project, a large number of Southwest Virginia counties have populations where 14 percent or more of residents possess conceal carry gun permits.
