Pound Virginia Man To Stand Trial For Assaulting Wise County Officers

A Pound, Virginia man has a February trial date set after being indicted for allegedly assaulting two Wise County Sheriff’s officers. 48 year old Joel David Dingus was arrested in December of 2018 after Wise County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a gunshot at Dingus’s 8003 Mockingbird Drive residence. Dingus, a convicted felon allowed officers inside the home, where officers discovered drug paraphernalia including a hypodermic syringe. A struggle began after Dingus threatened the officers with the syringe. The incident continued outside the home where Dingus continued to refuse to stop and struck both officers in the face. Dingus was tased by the officers but still refused to stop resisting. Finally, both officers gained control of Dingus and he was arrested. Dingus is charged with four felon counts including Assault on Law enforcement. His trial date is set for February 19.
