Charlotte couple indicted for painkiller scheme based in Southwest Virginia
A North Carolina couple was recently busted during a multi-agency investigation for a painkiller-sharing scheme with patients in Southwest Virginia.
Information from US District Court in Abingdon says Dr. David Lelio and his wife Nadja Lelio of Charlotte have been indicted on federal drug distribution charges. The doctor faces an additional charge of providing false statements to DEA agents.
Prosecutors said David Lelio would prescribe oxycodone with patients and would make a deal to get a portion of the pills for themselves while reimbursing patients for the cost.
