Bristol, TN City Council Endorsing Resolution to be sent to TN legislators for support of passenger rail service in the region
The Bristol, TN City Council is showing support for a more traditional style of passenger travel.
According to the agenda for Tuesday night’s meeting, they have several resolutions they are endorsing to send to the 2020 Tennessee General Assembly, including one involving passenger and freight rail service. The resolution supports extension of AMTRAK services to serve the Bristol area and beyond, following extension of the company’s services to Roanoke in 2017. Additionally, the city council requests the legislature to form a separate transportation department to serve rail and public transportation, while working alongside Virginia’s department to look into possible expansion of services along the corridors of Interstate 81, 40, and 75.
The city council meets tonight at 7 p.m.
