Johnson City Water Department Correcting Drainage Issue
A drainage issue at Johnson City’s Watauga Water Treatment Plant that caused a foaming incident and left Brush Creek with elevated chlorine levels, also results in the city receiving a notice from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation for a violation of an unpermitted discharge. Johnson City’s Water and Sewer Services Department reacted quickly to rectify the incident that occurred Thursday. Due to the violation notice, Johnson City must respond with a plan for next steps by the end of the month. The cause of the foaming incident is still not known and the department is working closely with state officials to correct the process.
